ššWe do more than rescue!! šš
Read a dogs journey with us ā¦..
š¾From the moment our dogs are saved from a Kill Shelter they enter a process which we feel is of optimum standard. EVERYTHING we do is in the best interest of every single dog.
š¾The start of the process sadly is seeing a dog in desperate need at a Kill Shelter (or sometimes on the street!). We raise the funds however we can to save each dog.
š¾Each dog is collected from the Kill Shelter and transported by the most caring team who will continue to look after them at the rescue centre. Continual care is key, the dogs receive the most kindest and caring transition from kill shelter to rescue shelter. No poles, no neck constraints but hands on gentle transition and transportation. This has a huge positive effect and negates the issue of dogs being scared of men which is almost always the case with rescue dogs.
š¾On arrival each and every dog is assessed by the wonderful inhouse vet Alex, he provides a thorough check and carries out any necessary screening, applies treatments and prescribes any extra needed treatment without any delay.
š¾The dog then has a short period of time to quarantine until we are sure there are no transmissible diseases.
š¾The dog is then assessed immediately of its nature and placed with another dog of compatibility or on its own if it poses a risk.
š¾The pens are scrupulously clean with indoor and outdoor facility, they are fed twice a day and their pens are thorough cleaned and disinfected twice a day. They all have beds relevant to their needs. Some dogs have soft beds, some have raised beds. Some dogs have a platform bed. (Their needs are assessed on whether they will be destructive and bite or chew up a bed which can cause ingestion problems.)
š¾All dogs need time to decompress as the previous days, weeks and months will have been unbearable.
š¾Each dog is given space and time to relax and watch its surrounding and activity before any intervention happens.
š¾When the rescue center team believes the dog is ready for interaction they will commence sessions of play, treat time, socialisation and rehabilitation every day.
š¾Behaviour is always an ongoing assessment process.
š¾Updates are provided to us on a daily and weekly basis so at any one time we always know how that dog is and how itās coping and behaving.
š¾The dogs are formally assessed personally by Julie the rescuer who spends time at the center playing and interacting with every single dog.
š¾All dogs have a full assessment record and this is included when evaluating if a dog is ready to be rehomed.
š¾If a dog is ready for rehoming, it will have an extensive preparation to ensure that the dog not only is as healthy as it can be but it is free from disease and does not pose a risk to anyone or any other animal. We carry out all disease checks not just the mandatory government set ones.
š¾Dogs are fully vaccinated , de wormed, defleed and microchipped.
š¾Each dog that is rehomed will have the new owners details an ID chip but will also include our rescue details incase the dog is ever found or surrendered to a vet. We will always take responsibility back for every dog that we have rescued.
š¾The new adopter of the dog will be offered life time support and rescue back up. The adopter will be contacted by us to ensure the dog is happy and so is the adopter themselves.
š¾We provide a full pack to help with the preparation of getting ready for your new rescue dog.
š¾We welcome updates for the lifetime of the dog from an adopter and will invite all adopters to the Save A Kill Shelter Dog Adopters Family Group where they can share their experience , arrange meet ups and just find friends who too have adopted from us.
š¾We want the entire journey of the dogs rescue to be the best it can be, likewise we want the entire process of adopting a dog the best it can be.
šSo we do far more than rescue a dog. š
